Cons: None
Your grade is entirely determined by you. If you participate in class projects (making movies, short films, commercials, music videos), you will get a good grade. If you don't participate, you won't get any points for anything.
Cons: There are none.
TAKE THIS CLASS!
Very passionate about subject
Incredibly nice guy.
Cons: Almost too nice and forgiving, sometimes students take advantage of him.
My favorite teacher at MTSU, very great guy.
Cons: Not really any.
I absolutely loved this class. Bowen is amazing. He is so nice and easy to work with. If you, for some reason, can't turn something in on time, he's usually pretty cool about letting you turn it in late. You have to watch 10/12 movies that he assigns and then take a 10 question quiz on it to make sure you watched it. The test were super easy, too. I think just about everyone made 100+ on the first one. There is a 5-10 page paper due at the end of the semester, but you can write it on any movie you want (as long as the movie came out before you were born). This class is an easy A and really fun.
I love professor Bowen!!! I feel like this is the first class I've taken in EMC where I actually learned something. Professor Bowen understands that some of us have never used Final Cut or have fancy camera equipment, unlike some professors I've had..... He takes it one step at a time and makes the class fun and interesting. At the beginning of the class I had no idea how to use Final Cut, now I feel like a semi-pro. Definitely take him if you can!!!!
I've had Bowen for two classes! He is one of the most off-the-cuff and real-world experienced teacher I've had! He is one of the best EMC professors that I've taken, and he is also one of the coolest guys to have. He has a ton of expertise with production work.
We get to do our own thing.
It say MWF class but we only go on MW. He saves fridays for production meetings.
This class is only about making movies (or videos). He lectures the first couple weeks of class then turns the rest of the semester to the class and making videos/movies. He wants us to pitch ideas, form teams, then make videos.
oh yeah and it is a MWF class but we never have class on fridays!!
He really cares about his students and encourages creativity.
Cons: He plays a lot of youtube videos.
I have had him 3 times and I love him! Really great class. Please take it.
Interesting material
Fun
Great movies to watch
Easy
Cons: Covers a significant amount of material
3000 was a great class. It was somewhat different than I expected, as there was work and several exams. You had to watch the movies, because there was a quiz every Monday. If you don't like watching films (old films), then don't take the class, but if you want to try something new and interesting, and you have a love of films, then absolutely take the class. Professor Bowen is very easy to understand, and he is helpful. He makes the material fun.
Fun
Interesting
Cons: Have to do final project by yourself, or everyone in the "group" has to hand in their own project.
I loved this class. It was informative, relevant, and interesting. Professor Bowen is very caring about his students and loves to see them succeed. It was a very enjoyable class, and I feel like I learned a significant amount about the field.
Dr. Bowen is funny and unique, yet very knowledgeable.
Easy test.
Cons: You cannot miss many classes!
I would highly recommend Dr. Bowen's class. Dr. Bowen makes the material interesting by taking a unique approach to teaching. He uses power points filled with You Tube videos and pictures that are rather entertaining.
It is important not to miss class. He does take roll. More importantly, if you go to class and pay attention you will hardly have to study for the test. He posts the PWPs online, however, they often just highlight the main points, so most the important information is given verbally in class.
His lectures usually run the whole class time.
We had 3 test. The test were straight from lecture and PWP. Easy.
I would suggest not buying the text book unless you REALLY need it. I bought it brand new ($$$) and never even opened it. I made a 100.3 final grade :)
Cons: You absolutely cannot miss a class. More than 3 absences will hurt your grade, and missing early on will result in you getting cut from the class.
His classes are very enjoyable. But if you're not a media junkie like me, you may have a hard time.
Cons: None.
Mr. Bowen is a really great teacher. He often showed us videos to help us understand things and was very laid back. I recommend him to anyone interested in electronic media.
Great teacher! I would highly recommend him!
Cons: none.
When you take this class take Professor Bowen!
Professor Bowen is an interesting character. He often tries to get the class involved by asking questions that relate to the material we're learning. His lectures are often a hit or miss-as in some days are really interesting and some days aren't. He takes a attendance everyday and his tests come straight from his powerpoint lectures. We used the book sparingly- it only came in handy for extra credit on tests.
makes class interesting
uses lots of visuals so its easy to remember the info
you have 4 grades in the class, you can take 3 tests and do a project or just take 4 tests. his tests are multiple choice, you can get an A on them fairly easily if you go to class, pay attention(you don't even have to take notes), and then just briefly review his study guides using google or wikipedia. He does take attendance on occasion. im not sure how strick he is on the attendance policy. good teacher overall, i'd take him again if i have the chance
Funny
Laidback
He's the most enjoyable professor I've had yet. He's actually still participating in the field that he's teaching and is always eager to work with students when he can.
Cons: Only 3 grades so don't take his class for granted.
Even though the course is easy you must go to class! Most of the test comes from videos you watch in class. And i know you wont watch the videos on your own!!
